Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dr. Kahn offers a variety of long-lasting dental crown restoration options to restore damaged teeth due to their ability to:

Improve Chewing Function

Chewing on a painful or damaged tooth can be difficult. This can make you avoid healthy foods like veggies and crunchy fruits. A restoration can protect the tooth from bite pressure.

Pain Reduction

A damaged or decayed tooth can cause discomfort or sensitivity.  Pain can be reduced or eliminated, when a tooth is protected by a restoration.

Reinforce Weak Teeth

Teeth that have been weakened by decay, injury, root canal and injury can avoid being extracted, when reinforced with a dental crown.

Improve Bite Alignment

A balanced bite can be achieved by an accurately placed restoration. TMJ treatment can be avoided by evenly spreading out chewing pressure among your teeth.

What is a Dental Crown?

A broken or decayed tooth can often lead to pain and difficulties chewing. When the damage is too significant to be treated with a filling, a dental crown may be the best solution. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that are placed over the remaining portion of the tooth to protect it from further damage.

Hunter’s Creek Dental Center in Orlando, FL, offers a variety of dental crown materials to accommodate our patients. In some cases, we can even provide same-day crowns made with our in-office technology. Dr. Mohammed Khan or Dr. Amber Khan can help you determine the best treatment to preserve the integrity of your smile.

A dental crown is a restoration that is placed over a tooth that has been substantially damaged or decayed. Dental crowns are designed to replicate the shape and function of a natural tooth. Dental crowns can also be utilized to replace a missing tooth when supported by a dental implant.

We can quickly determine if a crown or another solution is the best way to repair your smile.

Materials We Offer

Each type of dental crown material offers patients different advantages, depending on their needs. You can choose to have your crown fabricated from:

Zirconia
Zirconia is a popular dental crown material due to its exceptional strength, natural-looking color, and translucency.
Porcelain
Often recommended for anterior restorations, porcelain crowns can be color-matched to your surrounding teeth to fit seamlessly into your smile. Our same-day crowns are created from porcelain, offering patients convenience without sacrificing important aesthetic and functional qualities.
Porcelain Fused to Metal
These crowns offer patients the advantages of a tooth-colored crown with the added strength of a metal base. However, the metal may contrast with the gumline, making them more noticeable than other solutions. As such, porcelain fused to metal crowns are often recommended for posterior teeth.
IPS® Empress
Composed of a glass-ceramic, IPS Empress crowns are recognized for their highly realistic appearance. The leucite-based material allows these crowns to reflect light as a natural tooth would. In addition to exceptional aesthetics, these crowns provide durability and strength.

During your consultation, your doctor can help determine which material is best for you depending on your goals and budget. Insurance coverage for your crown may be based on the material you have selected. We accept financing through CareCredit® to cover treatment costs.

Dental Crowns Dramatically Improve Your Smile

Before and after dental crowns

Before — Stained, damaged, teeth

After — Bright, restored teeth

Receiving Your Crown

Typically, a dental crown requires two appointments. During your first visit, we will remove the damaged or decayed portion of the tooth and prepare for crown placement. Once the tooth has been altered, we will take impressions of your bite. These impressions will be utilized to create your customized dental crown for a comfortable, secure fit.

The typical turnaround time for crowns at our practice is 10 business days. However, patients who qualify for a same-day crown can receive their crown within a few hours. Once your crown is ready, we will place the crown over the remaining tooth structure. At this time, your doctor can make any necessary small adjustments to improve the fit or aesthetics. Your crown will then be secured with dental cement.
